What To Expect from Hypnosis

At Pathway Hypnotherapy & Intuitive Counseling, the intake consult call is complimentary and lasts around 30 min.  A typical hypnotherapy session lasts 60 minutes.

In the initial session, I will ask specific questions to better understand the scope of the issue that you are seeking to overcome. I will then take you through two brief hypnotic exercises prior to starting full hypnotherapy.

The reasons for these “pre-hypnosis exercises” include:

They give me insight as to how you process information. People process information visually, auditorily or kinesthetically, and knowing this helps  me determine which hypnotic techniques will work best for you.
The exercises also help me evaluate your willingness to take my suggestion, which is a key factor and the basis for this work.
It offers you a brief experience of hypnosis before being guided fully into the hypnotic state.

I will also take time to address any fears, concerns or reservations you may have about going into hypnosis.

I will answer all your questions and ensure you are comfortable with the process. This facilitates the best result possible.

After I have a comprehensive understanding of the complexities of the issues you face and you are comfortable in your understanding of the process, I will gently guide you into hypnosis and begin the process of transformation. Hypnotherapy is cumulative and progressive. Each suggestion, affirmation and image paves the way for the next.

Hypnotherapy is not a panacea, but it is extremely effective in transforming negative emotions and eliminating destructive or defeating behaviors that so many struggle with on a daily basis.

At the end of the initial session, I will estimate how many sessions you will need based upon the complexity of the issue. Everyone is different and while some clients successfully clear an issue in as little as one session, others can take up to six sessions or more. What To Expect from a Psychic Medium Reading

All readings are God-based.

Keli is a Psychic Medium. All information comes through Spirit and it is Keli’s prayer through meditation to be a clear channel for the information that is to be brought through for the client.

Skeptics often question Intuitives and Keli understands why.

Unfortunately, some hold themselves out in this way and take advantage of innocent people when they are most vulnerable. How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, therapy will be different depending on the individual. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs

I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the ability to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. You already have some strengths that you’ve used before, that for whatever reason isn’t working right now. Perhaps this problem feels overwhelming and is making it difficult to access your past strengths. In our work together, I’ll help you identify what those strengths are and how to implement them again in what is happening now.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

The difference is between someone who can do something, and someone who has the training and experience to do that same thing professionally. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, therapy is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, if you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Medication alone cannot solve all issues. What medication does is treat the symptoms. Our work together is designed to explore the root of the issue, dig deep into your behavior and teach strategies that can help you accomplish your personal and/or relational goals.

Medication can be effective and is sometimes needed in conjunction with therapy.

How long will it take?

Unfortunately, this is not possible to say in a general FAQs page. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time therapy can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek therapy in the first place.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication is crucial to your success. After all, we only see each other for a session a week. It’s the work you do outside of our sessions that will really help you see your personal growth and development.

My partner and I are having problems. Should we be in individual counseling or come together?

If you are concerned about your relationship, and you would both like to work with me, I would initially work with both of you together. After this work, if one of you would like to continue in individual sessions, I could work with only one of you. It is not helpful to move from individual into couple’s work with the same therapist because of potential trust issues.

Myths & Misconceptions

Myth #1: A hypnotist is a person gifted with special, mystical or unusual powers.

Truth: A hypnotist does not have any unusual or mystical powers. A well-trained hypnotist understands that a person hypnotizes himself. The hypnotherapist uses the effective delivery of suggestions to facilitate an altered state of mind and teaches the client to bring about, or self-induce, the hypnotic state all for positive change.

 

Myth #2: My mind will be controlled.

Truth: In hypnosis, YOU are fully in control and aware AT ALL TIMES. You will never do anything against your will or moral code of ethics. You will remember everything that happens.

 

Myth #3: I can’t be hypnotized; I’m not gullible enough.

Truth: More than 90 percent of people can be successfully put into hypnosis. However, you have to “want” to be hypnotized for it to happen.

Myth #4: I’ve tried hypnosis in the past and it didn’t work.

Truth: It usually takes three to six sessions to resolve a given issue. For hypnosis to be effective, you must be willing to accept suggestion, be free from fear and be free from the need to be in control.

 

Myth #5: I’m going to get “stuck” in the hypnotic state.

Truth: No one has remained indefinitely in a hypnotic state; it can be terminated at will. It is as simple as opening your eyes.

 

 

Myth #6: When hypnotized, a person is not aware of his surroundings.

Truth: In hypnosis, awareness is increased. You are aware of everything going on around you and what is being said to you, and you can reject any suggestion that is given to you at any time.

Myth #7: A person must be in a deep hypnotic state to be helped.

Truth: You do not need to be in a deep state of hypnosis to benefit from it. Beneficial results can come from taking suggestions while in a light trance.
